March 2 to April 9, 2012 – Hiatus.

What a March. St. Patrick’s Day in Hartford, visiting Connecticut, an awards ceremony at the Mandarin Oriental with extremely talented artists – Simic, Baryshnikov, Kouakou, Christo, Mari Kimura, among so many others, and just last week a trip to San Francisco for the Nonprofit Technology Network’s 2012 Conference. During that time, I focused all my energy on researching exhibition opportunities and applying to open calls (with happy news coming soon!).

With all that time filling out apps, I’ve been thinking about my work (and art in general) and thinking about new directions. Over the next few weeks, I will be posting snapshots of ideas, photos of interesting things, and preparing for a new series of videos revolving around the themes of identity, digital footprint, and the filter bubble.

Til then, Happy April!

Dimensions vary by installation

Video, projector, web cam, infrared LED, mirror, plywood, frosted glass

In spirit of the end of the world, I am sharing an interactive touchscreen project with you today.  Contamination 2 tracks motion and touch using a webcam adapted to react to infrared light. The more a participant interacts, black oily textures begin to fill the screen and then dissipate . This physical object no longer exists — the wooden frame was quite large, consisting of plywood and frosted glass that housed a projector and series of infrared lights and mirrors — I hope you enjoy this documentation video and I look forward to seeing you at Everything is Falling Apart tonight!

Welcome!

This is the first post in a brand-new blog where I will share newly created work. Unlike the Selected Works section of my website, this blog will feature a painting, drawing, photograph, video—any art that I’ve been thinking about and creating—each day.  Featured works from this blog may later be posted on brianpcavanaugh.com.
