Happy Mardi Gras! Wishing I was back in New Orleans to celebrate… but I can celebrate this painting now that it is finished. If you’re following along, I did go back through with watercolor to reduce the sheen of the ink. I left the ink’s glossy finish to create more depth in some areas, but it’s not evident through the photograph. I think it turned out well and I’m looking forward to the next project. All that’s left to do is frame it, and go eat a donut for Mardi Gras. Enjoy!
Finished the watercolor and ink painting this evening and will be posted tomorrow morning! In the meantime — here is a watercolor portrait painted a while ago..

Work in progress

Watercolor and ink on paper
This afternoon I sat down with my black and white painting, which is nearing towards completion. I last posted updates on February 11th and February 12th, so I am glad to be working on this again. The middle of the painting has been filled in and I started with undertones for the grass blades in the foreground. I’m still struggling with the sheen of the watercolor versus ink…a solution may be to go back with watercolor and dull the reflective sheen from the ink. I am hoping that another day’s work will finish this piece. Stay tuned!
